AMMAN: The city of Jerusalem is fast becoming the new epicenter of the Palestine-Israel conflict as tensions rise between local citizens and authorities.
On Saturday, Bassem Khoury, a Palestinian Christian businessman, led a delegation of 37 diplomats in Jerusalem to attend Holy Fire ceremonies.
They were met by an Israeli force that denied their entry. An Israeli official physically attacked Khoury at the New Gate.
“He threw me to the ground and I had to be helped by a Russian diplomat,” Khoury told Arab News. “I plan to sue the Israeli policeman for this act and for the violation of a court order to the Orthodox Club that called on the police to ease the entry of Christians to participate in religious ceremonies.”

DUBAI: The Arab Parliament condemned the Houthis’ banning of Tarawih prayers in Sanaa’s mosques and other areas under their control by force of arms, Yemen’s state news agency Saba News reported on Sunday.
The parliament said this behavior was considered one of multiple flagrant violations committed by the militia against Yemeni people.
“This hateful behavior contradicts the principles of religions and contradicts international conventions that affirm respect for freedom of belief and the protection of places of worship,” the Arab Parliament said in a statement.
It also said the behavior is added to the militia’s record of multiple crimes against humanity. It added that Houthis are showing their lack of respect to the sanctity of religious rituals and the feelings of Muslims during the month of Ramadan.

Brent fell 1.9% on Friday, likely on profit-taking after it had risen 4.0% Monday through Thursday. The uncontrolled outbreak of COVID-19 in India continues to be the main factor weighing against crude oil prices at this moment. Strategists at OCBC Bank expect Brent Oil to remain below the $68 level at least until India contains the outbreak.
India remains the wild card
“The uncontrolled coronavirus outbreak in India will continue to pose the biggest downside risk to oil prices for now. Bloomberg reported in April, gasoline consumption in India probably fell 6% and diesel about 2%. This consumption weakness is likely to continue into this month, given the ever-worsening daily cases in India.”
